Tulips planted at the Hillsborough Peace Park to honor Canada 150. The Hillsborough Women’s Institute has been awarded a “Happy Birthday Canada” 150th Celebration Garden! Hillsborough WI is one of the lucky recipients of 150th Celebration Gardens being distributed across Canada – by the Canadian Garden Council in collaboration with Vesey’s Bulbs of PEI in celebration of Canada’s Sesquicentennial in 2017. The garden consisted of of 500 red and 500 white tulip bulbs, generously donated by Vesey’s Bulbs of PEI. One of the reasons the HWI applied for the Celebration Garden is to celebrate Canada’s birthday as we have a Father of Confederation, William Henry Steeves, born here and also to honor a long time HWI member (over 50 years!) who immigrated from Holland, Dora Braam.
